Role purpose:
To work collaboratively with the GP practice and other PPG members to ensure that the patient voice is heard, helping to improve services, promote health and wellbeing, and strengthen communication between the practice and its patients.
Key Responsibilities:
- Attend regular PPG meetings (usually quarterly with some working group or other ad hoc meetings).
- Act as a ‘critical friend’ by offering constructive feedback and suggestions to the practice.
- Help identify areas for service improvement based on patient experience.
- Contribute to and support patient surveys and feedback initiatives.
- Assist in promoting health campaigns and local health initiatives within the community.
- Represent the views of the wider patient population – not just personal views.
- Maintain confidentiality and respect the privacy of patients and staff at all times.
- Promote equality and diversity by ensuring that all voices within the community are considered.
- Help develop and support practice events, newsletters, or other patient communications.
Person Specification – Skills & Attributes:
- Good communication and listening skills
- Ability to work as part of a team
- Open-minded, non-judgmental, and respectful of diverse views
- Reliable and able to commit time for meetings and occasional activities
- Basic understanding of the role of general practice and the NHS (support provided if needed)
- Willingness to act in the interest of all patients, not just personal issues
- Maintains confidentiality and handles sensitive information appropriately
- Basic IT skills – for accessing emails, joining virtual meetings, or reviewing documents
Time Commitment:
- Typically 4 meetings per year (some preparation before meetings will be necessary) with occasional additional meetings (in person or online)
- Depending on your role you will need to spend time researching, meeting with other organisations (in person or by phone or online) or working with other PPG members or Practice staff.
- Occasional support for events, surveys, or patient communications
Training & Support:
- Induction provided for new members and ongoing support from other PPG members.
